CONCEPTUAL LUNAR HABITATS

(2019 - 2020)

INTRODUCTION

My project on Conceptual Lunar Habitats attempts to mitigate and prevent the adverse psychological effects of prolonged isolation and confinement in future Lunar habitats, specifically for NASA's Lunar colonisation efforts, the Artemis Program, in the upcoming 2030s+.

FIELD OF PRACTISE

It is located in the field of systems design and habitation design, which includes various types of domains such as space stations, Lunar habitats, experimental habitats, Antarctic stations, submarines, elderly homes, and various living spaces in the world of science fiction.

CONTEXT + APPLICATION

The project is for space agencies, researchers, designers, and the astronauts who would be settling in the Lunar south pole within the decade. My habitats have been designed to specifically reduce the negative effects of living in isolation and confinement environments. It is only theoretical, however, so it will only serve as a concept on what could be implemented in future habitats.

DESIGN METHODS

My research phase consisted of studying research articles, consulting with professionals and other designers, and attempts to have research interviews. The concept phase has been done in both 2D and 3D using Photoshop and Modo respectively. The outcomes have been presented through virtual 3D as physically constructing a massive habitat would not be feasible.
